GMet urges farmers to plant in mid-March to avoid crop losses

Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) says it is risky for farmers to plant early, as the rains set in.

Instead, the Agency is urging farmers to wait until middle of March, where the country is expected to experience more rains.

“The rains would not be enough to support planting. The soil needs enough water before it can sustain the seed for the crops germinate and grow,”, Mr Mubarick Raj Salifu, the Bono Regional Director of GMet told Sky News in Sunyani.

He said the yearly outlook would guide farm work and asked the farmers to be patient and wait for the rains in mid March before planting their farms.
